About Boulevard Heights

Mission

Our primary mission is to assist in prevention and safety while providing efficient, timely fire suppression, and emergency medical services to our residents and visitors of Prince Georges County, Maryland.

Company Overview

Boulevard Heights Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, Inc. (BHVFD) Company 17 is a Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department that serves the citizens in and around the Boulevard Heights, Capitol Heights, Hillside and Suitland areas of PG County. Our members are trained in fire suppression, hazardous materials and technical rescue and serve as Emergency Medical Technicians. We were established in 1923 and are located in Capitol Heights, Maryland, just across the DC/MD border of Southern Avenue where we have also been called upon to assist with services in our Nation’s Capital, Washington, DC.

Our station responds to fire, EMS and public service related calls each year – 24 hours a Day. We currently operate (2) Class-A Fire Suppression Pumpers and (1) Basic Life Support Ambulance Unit to service a community of approximately 175,000 residents. Our membership is comprised of 50 dedicated men and women that are 100% ALL VOLUNTEER Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics. Although our members have full-time jobs and families of their own, they still work to staff the station and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including ALL Holidays.

As volunteer firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians, we perform these life-saving techniques without compensation. Fees from hall rentals and other fundraisers supplement funding received from our taxpayers to purchase needed equipment, supplies, and some small incentives for our members.

We are actively recruiting personnel that are trained or want to be trained as Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians to support our function of providing the best and most efficient life-saving Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical care to the community as possible.
